Diatomic Architecture

Diatoms are defined as “unicellular algae with ornate silica shells” and “diatoms will teach nanotechnologists how to make minute structures currently beyond the capabilities of materials scientists”. LINK

This is really fascinating. I saw this photo in the Guardian. LINK –  The secret world of the microscopic

I was thinking how much like “architecture” this algae with shell-like characteristics is.

I mean, I cannot imagine that there is another world out there which is so architectural.
